A celebration of business experts and leaders in Westminster today

The Westminster Business Council Awards reward and promote businesses who operate in, and support the economy of, the City of Westminster, giving them the recognition they deserve and congratulating the people behind these great achievements.

The inaugural Westminster Business Council Awards will take place in October with a key focus on celebrating talent, ingenuity and business excellence in Westminster.

These awards bring a new wave of recognition unlike any other awards programme in the UK. They seek out new and innovative practices and encourage organisations of all sizes, and from all industries, to forge relations in celebrating the importance of Westminster business.

These outstanding achievements will be marked by eight categories covering business practices, diversity, social value, apprentices and the Westminster Business Council Chairman’s award. Entries are now open.

It is intended that the awards grow in size and reputation year on year, and the shortlisted and winning businesses showcase the significance of Westminster as an outstanding place to work.

The Awards evening

The aim of introducing these Award to Westminster is to create a truly inspiring awards programme which rewards hard work, commitment and talent, culminating in an uplifting and entertaining evening of celebration for the whole of the Westminster business community.

The Awards evening will take place on Tuesday 22nd October at the National Liberal Club, 1 Whitehall Pl, Westminster, London SW1A 2HE. The evening will commence with a drinks reception followed by a celebration dinner.

The evening will be hosted by Dr Paul Knapman, Representative Deputy Lieutenant for the City of Westminster.

Representative Deputy Lieutenant for the London Borough of the City of Westminster
Dr Paul Knapman, a doctor and barrister, was HM Coroner for Westminster. In over 30 years in that office he had extensive dealings with all the blue light services, together with social services, and voluntary groups in Westminster. He spent a few years in the medical service of the RNR – and was Chairman of Governors of the London Nautical School. His charitable activities include having been Chairman of Trustees of the Coroners Court Support Service when it won the Queens Award for Charitable Service in 2009, and he is a trustee of the St Marylebone Almshouses charity.

We are seeking organisations who can demonstrate investment in their people and have an employee strategy that best attracts, retains and nurtures talent. We are looking for evidence of how being an employer of choice contributes to sustainable revenue growth.

In addition, you must also demonstrate your commitment to your customers and provide evidence of outstanding customer services.

Best business to demonstrate Diversity

Can you demonstrate outstanding achievements within your business for commitment and motivation for a truly successful culture of diversity in all areas of your business operations, including recruitment, and the impact this has made on the wider community?

Whatever your sustainability initiative, programme or strategy, we want to hear what you did, why you did it, the results, and continued commitment to running a truly sustainability conscious business.


Best business delivering Apprenticeship Programmes

This category has been designed to showcase those businesses committed to delivering apprenticeship programmes, how they do it and why.

We are looking for apprenticeship exemplars – businesses that can demonstrate the impact apprenticeships have made to individuals’ lives and the workplace. Highlighting best practice in recruitment excellence, high quality training, diversity and career progression opportunities.


Most outstanding business in creating Social Value

Recognising businesses that give back, enrich communities and make a contribution to society and industry. This can include areas of charity working, fundraising, tackling social, economic or environmental problems – any demonstrable activity which provides positive results for a better future for your industry and the community.

If your work is contributing to creating a better society for everyone and delivering real outcomes, demonstrating best practice and delivering innovative solutions for others to follow, we want to hear from you.


Most outstanding Young Person in business

This category is to celebrate business acumen in young people aged 25 years and under. The category is open to dynamic individuals who are making considerable contributions to a business or running their own business and can demonstrate great success for revenue, culture and business value. Evidence of either exceptional entrepreneurship or collaborative working with others within their team/business is required.


Most innovative use of Technology

This category is seeking companies that have successfully developed and/or introduced new technologies and innovative digitally-led solutions to support the way they work and deliver their products or services.

You must demonstrate the need for the new technology and how you identified this, what innovative approach did you adopt, your delivery methods, the outcomes and what impact this has made on your business, your stakeholders and/or your industry.


Westminster Business Council Chairman’s Award

The winner of this award will be selected by the Chairman of Westminster Business Council, Barry Tucker, for outstanding contribution to business and community within the City of Westminster in the past 12 months.

Entries should demonstrate success in all areas of the business, showing growth, innovation and commitment to employees, customers and the community. A step above the rest, with flair, gravitas and ingenuity and demonstrable results.

Plus, tell us what  your business has achieved in working and supporting the local economy and the business community in Westminster.
